"Renditions" by G. M. Foster
Our politicians and 'leaders' have given us a world of perpetual war. Poetry may be an intensely private pursuit, but poets nevertheless live in this world. Poetry strives against the abuse of truth. Divinity is not disgraced by crimes committed in the name of religion, nor is poetry compromised by the language of lies. Poetry speaks against iniquity and injustice, and for human solidarity. In a world of war liberty still lives. If we do not speak in its defense, who will? And if not now, when?
